All States Should Legalize Fireworks
I believe all states should legalize fireworks. Only about half of the 50 states allow all consumer fireworks. My home state of Illinois only allows sparklers and pop-its to be used. That is an absolute joke. How are we supposed to have a good time with sparklers and pop-its? You can't. Those are the lamest "fireworks" if you even wanted to classify them as firework products.
There are so many benefits to having fireworks legal. One is job opportunities. By having fireworks legal, this provides entrepreneurial opportunities to residents. They can purchase products from a wholesaler and open up their own fireworks stand for the season. This keeps local dollars circulating in the local economy rather than giving them to another state that has legalized fireworks. Also, there will always be demand for fireworks. They are fun products to use to celebrate just about any holiday or special occasion. By allowing local residents to open stores or stands, this can satisfy the demand of the local market. If people are just casual fireworks users, they most likely won't want to drive over an hour to another state just for fireworks. But, if there is a store 10 minutes away in their town, they are much more likely to purchase fireworks to use. Another benefit is the increased revenue for the state. States that are struggling with budgets and deficits, like my state of Illinois, would be stupid to not legalize fireworks. They should be jumping at any opportunity to generate revenue for the state. Illinois is one of the worst states in the country in terms of high taxes and deficits it faces. They should legalize fireworks so that they can rake in all of the tax dollars to help pay for things like improving roads, public education, and other things that they do a terrible job of providing.
The drawbacks of legalizing fireworks are essentially limited to safety issues. People always get hurt using fireworks every year, but they are very safe products if you know how to use them. If you don't know how to use them safely, either don't use them at all or look up information online. There is a plethora of informational videos on how to use these products safely. Even when taking into account the amount of injuries, I still believe legalization far outweighs banning fireworks. The revenue generated from the taxes will be more than enough to pay for the injuries to people while using them.
